PRIDE

September 8, 2018

This summer was spent collaborating with a lovely bunch of fellow brave county members, bringing the first annual Pride Franklin County to the area.  What a rush!  It has been a few weeks since the event actually took place, but time has been filled with debriefing and moving right into planning for next year.  For those that live in areas that already have pride events, this might seem old news. But for our county, this was a major achievement.  Visibility brings awareness which can lead to acceptance.

I was not only on the planning committee but I had the honor of moderating the Coming Out panel.  Hearing the stories, the shared narratives, and the different experiences that each person has gone through in their lives really illustrated why pride events are so powerful.  Knowing that you are not alone and knowing that there is a community out there can help open the world a bit more.  If you are feeling alone, know that there are those that care.
